Trace a hopeful trail of footprints.
From women recyclers in Gambia to small cocoa farmers in the Dominican Republic, Fair Trade brings you closer to the products you eat, wear, and absolutely adore. |
Am I really making a difference?
Fair Trade is about higher, living wages. Even if you only make $300 in sales, enough money is earned by the artisans to send a child to school for a semester, for example.
How much money does a group or individual earn from hosting a consignment sale?
Your group (or you, if individually hosting) earns 20% of merchandise, as long as you sell at least $300 worth of merchandise before your discount is taken (Note: must be $500 for $1000 package and$1000 for $2500 package).
What if I want my 20% earnings to be donated?
We would be happy to donate your funds to one of our affiliate non-profit groups, supporting development and education initiatives worldwide. If you choose this option, please indicate so on your final inventory list when you send in payment, and we’ll send you a receipt and letter telling you where your funds have been allocated.
What happens if I don’t sell $300 worth of merchandise?
If you aren’t able to sell the minimum amount of $300 (or $500 or $1000 for larger packages), please understand that our costs involved do not afford us the ability to let you or your group earn the 20%, but you can still return unsold merchandise.
Do I have to pay for shipping?
A Better Footprint will ship the package to you for about $10 (charged to card), and we ask you to pay and take care of the return shipping of what you are unable to sell within 10 days of the event closing date. (A typical large box of merchandise costs about $20 to ship via UPS).
What happens if I don’t return the items?
In order to continue offering consignment sales to a variety of groups and individuals, your credit card will be charged total retail value for all consignment items not returned or paid for within 10 days of the sale date, or those returned in unusable condition. Please contact us well before the ten day period expires if you are experiencing difficulties.
How far in advance should I order a Consignment Package?
We recommend placing your order at least 4-6 weeks in advance of the event starting date. Placing your order even further ahead of time will allow you and A Better Footprint more time for planning, especially from October-December. A Better Footprint normally ships your package two weeks before the event.
How do I know which package to select?
In our experience, we’ve found that a number of factors can influence sales. Consider the number of people expected to attend, whether or not there will be other vendors or items for sale, and the space you’ll have to display goods. We recommend letting us send you best sellers in a variety of categories, or sticking to just one or two categories of your choice that fit the event theme or target market. We stock our event tables with two times as much merchandise as we hope to sell, so that we don’t run out. Consider also the amount you or your group would like to make, and estimate the amount you’ll need to sell to reach that goal. If you’d like to request specific items or speak to an Ambassador, please call us at 920-569-6332.
Why do you need a credit card number?
We place the items in your hands, on good faith, that you’ll sell as many items as you can and return as few items as possible. To protect our artisans and our company, we require a credit card that will not be charged unless items are not returned within 10 days, or are returned in damaged or used condition (see: “What happens if I don’t return the items?”)
Do I need to collect sales tax or get a permit?
Some church and school groups are exempt from needing to collect sales tax. Individuals and groups outside of these exemptions must check local laws and file individually, as A Better Footprint will not be responsible for collecting or filing taxes for sales not hosted by us. Check with your local event coordinator for information regarding selling permits.
How do I send items and payment back to A Better Footprint?
When you receive your consignment package, you will be given an inventory list. Complete the list to itemize what sold and what is being returned. Include only ONE check, made payable to A Better Footprint for amount of goods sold, less your 20% earnings if you sold more than $300 (or $500 or $1000). Items MUST be accompanied by the inventory list and we encourage you to make a copy for your records. A Better Footprint will not pay for or reimburse you for return shipping costs. If items are not returned within 10 days of sale end, we will charge the credit card on file the full retail amount of items.
What kind of artisan information is available?
With your kit, you’ll receive pricing tags for each item, which highlight the countries. Larger kits may include artisan posters, tags, or flyers. Artisan information is always available for viewing and printing on our website. Simply locate an item in our online store, and click the “Made By” link. Making your own posters is a great way to boost sales and customer education.
What kind of sales and marketing help is available?
At your request, we’ll can help you with email marketing, poster templates and sales tips. Let us know how we can help you promote your fair trade fundraiser. If you’d like to request more help, please e-mail:
abetterfootprint@gmail.com and an Ambassador will contact you.
